Staying Connect(ed) through Color

On Sunday, June 7, BUILD proudly partnered with Columbia City Beatwalk to host the BUILD x Beatwalk PRIDE Block Party, a joyful celebration honoring the Black diaspora of the LGBTQIA+ community. Centered around this year's theme, "We Connect Through Color," the event transformed Columbia City into a vibrant gathering space filled with music, culture, creativity, and connection.

From the moment attendees arrived, the energy was undeniable. Live music filled the streets, local vendors showcased their businesses and artistry, community leaders shared resources and inspiration, and neighbors, families, and friends gathered together to celebrate the richness and diversity of our community.

The PRIDE Block Party was more than an event. It was a reminder of the power of visibility, belonging, and collective joy. Through every conversation, performance, and shared experience, participants embraced the beauty of what happens when people come together with love, respect, and authenticity.

The theme, "We Connect Through Color," reflected the many identities, stories, and experiences that make our communities stronger. Color represented not only the vibrant symbols of Pride, but also the diversity of culture, heritage, expression, and perspective that enriches our neighborhoods every day. Throughout the event, those colors came alive through art, fashion, music, and the countless connections made between community members.

BUILD is committed to creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Events like the PRIDE Block Party help strengthen the bonds that connect us while uplifting voices that have too often been overlooked. Together with Columbia City Beatwalk and our incredible community partners, vendors, performers, and volunteers, we created an atmosphere rooted in love, inclusion, and belonging.

As we reflect on an unforgettable day, we are grateful for everyone who attended and helped make the celebration possible. The laughter, music, conversations, and community spirit reminded us that our greatest strength lies in coming together, embracing our differences, and celebrating one another.
